New Mexico Historic Women Marker Initiative

Prior to 2007, there were no historical markers in New Mexico that featured women's contributions to the states long history.

The initiative, started in 2005 with markers going up in 2007 up through the present, now includes 66 markers and growing.

You can view a list of all of these special markers in this pdf document.

Each time I come across one of these markers, you will see a link to this page. Each marker includes this text on the backside:

So far I have visited the following markers included as part of the Historic Women Marker Initiative series:

  • Doña Ana: Located in Doña Ana, New Mexico: Doña Ana County (north of Las Cruces, take Doña Ana exit to Doña Ana village)
